Dr. Jessica Moe holds an MD, FRCPC (emergency medicine), American Board Certification (emergency medicine), MSc (clinical epidemiology), and MA (international law and human rights). She is the scientific director of the Emergency Opioid Innovation Program within the BC Emergency Medicine Network. She also practices as an emergency physician at Vancouver General Hospital and BC Children’s Hospital.

Elle Wang, MSc

Analytic Project Manager

Elle is a graduate from UBC interested in Epidemiology and public health. She joined the Moe Lab in July 2020 and has been involved in multiple projects. Elle loves playing with data and exploring the facts behind the data. During her spare time, she enjoys tasting delicious food, spending time with her two cats, and playing Guzheng (a traditional Chinese string instrument).


Cindy Liu, BSc, CAPM

Project Coordinator

Cindy recently graduated from UBC studying a Combined Major in Sciences. She has been involved with the study since August 2021 and she was involved with the feasibility study in 2020. Her research interests include substance use and overdose prevention. In her spare time, Cindy enjoys playing golf, tennis and spending time with her two cats, Bean and Bamboo.


Khushi Dabla, BSc, MS1

Assistant Project Coordinator

Khushi is a first-year medical student at the University of British Columbia and the Assistant Project Coordinator for the EMED Study across BC sites. She has been involved with the study since 2022 and is passionate about supporting individuals affected by substance use and mental health-related illnesses. Outside of the Moe Lab, Khushi co-founded the Global Outreach Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare access in low-resource communities worldwide. In her spare time, she enjoys learning new dance choreographies, weight training, and perfecting her craft as a budding café connoisseur.


Tiffany Chiu, MPH

Junior Project Coordinator

Vancouver General Hospital

Tiffany is a Master of Public Health graduate from the University of British Columbia, specializing in Health Promotion and Equity. She completed her practicum with the team in 2024 and returned as a coordinator in 2025. Outside of work, Tiffany enjoys trying new restaurants, playing ice hockey, and spending time with friends and family.


Alisha Hussey, MPH, MD

Emergency Medicine Resident

Vancouver General Hospital

Alisha is currently an emergency medicine resident at Vancouver’s General Hospital and previously completed a Master’s of Public Health with a focus on social inequities and health, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Molecular Biology. She has been involved with the EMED study as a Research Assistant since February 2021 and is now focusing primarily on healthcare provider engagement with the study. Her research interests include substance use and addictions and women’s health. She enjoys cycling, travelling, drinking copious amounts of coffee, and trying to keep her covid plant collection alive. In her free time, she continues her pursuit of finding the world’s best croissant. 


Sahi Hajirawala, BSc

Research Assistant

Vancouver General Hospital

Sahi graduated from UBC with a BSc in Microbiology and Immunology and is pursuing his MSc in Experimental Medicine. He is currently involved with EMED study as a Research Assistant at Vancouver General Hospital. His research interests include substance use, mental health, and addictions. Outside of the Moe Lab, he is involved with clinical research at the Rapid Access Addictions Clinic, and as an advocate at a poverty law clinic. In his spare time, Sahi enjoys biking, rock climbing, and playing unnecessarily complicated board games.


Emma Uphill, BA

Research Assistant

Vancouver General Hospital

Emma graduated from Simon Fraser University with a degree in English and Health Sciences and completed a graduate diploma in Indigenous Studies with a special interest in decolonizing healthcare through Indigenous epistemologies. She is passionate about research related to substance use and is currently a Research Assistant with the EMED study at Vancouver General Hospital, where she feels grateful to support individuals affected by the ongoing opioid crisis. Outside of work, you can usually find Emma swimming in the ocean year-round and sipping iced coffee year-round, too.


Jet Le

Research Assistant

Jet is a 4th year undergraduate student currently completing a Combined Major in Sciences at UBC. He is a research assistant involved with the EMED study at both the Vancouver General Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital. Jet is passionate about medical research, particularly in the fields of substance use, virology and infectious diseases. Outside of school, he is a chess enthusiast, enjoys listening to music and plays recreational volleyball.


Navi Pandher

Navi is a third-year undergraduate student completing a BSc in Neuroscience at UBC. She is currently a co-op student, working as a research assistant in the EMED Study at Vancouver General Hospital, and is passionate about improving healthcare practices and patient care. In her spare time, Navi loves baking, painting, and spending time playing outdoor sports with friends.


Eknoor Kaur

Research Assistant

Eknoor is an undergraduate student working towards a BSc at UBC, where she is pursuing a combined major in Microbiology, Immunology, and Computer Science. She is currently a co-op student at St. Paul’s Hospital, serving as a research assistant on the EMED study. Eknoor is passionate about a career in medicine, with a focus in substance use, immunology, and virology. Outside of her academic commitments, Eknoor enjoys exploring the outdoors and trying to chase sunsets with friends and family.

Arnab is a medical student at UBC with a bachelor’s and masters degree in microbiology and immunology. He is passionate about addictions medicine, mental health, and infectious diseases. In his spare time he enjoys cheering for the San Antonio Spurs, eating fried chicken, and playing cards.


Pritam Cooner

Pritam is a fourth-year undergraduate student studying Neuroscience at UBC. He is currently a research assistant at Vancouver General Hospital contributing to the EMED study. He is passionate about improving accessibility and providing quality health care for vulnerable populations. In his spare time Pritam enjoys playing basketball, going for runs, and listening to music.

Lucy is a third-year undergraduate student at UBC completing her BSc in Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience. She is passionate about mental health, addictions care, and harm reduction. In her spare time, Lucy enjoys photography, hiking, and exploring new cafes and restaurants.


Ashika Kamboj

Volunteer Research Assistant

Ashika is a fifth-year Neuroscience student at UBC with a strong interest in healthcare and research that improves patient experiences. Through her volunteer work in the VGH Emergency Department, she developed a deeper appreciation for the complexities of acute care and substance use, and she is excited to support research that drives meaningful clinical impact. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, watching the NBA, and playing pickleball far too competitively.


Mavis Cheung

Mavis is an undergraduate student studying pharmacology in UBC faculty of science. She is passionate about patient communication and pursuing a career in the healthcare industry. In her free time, Mavis enjoys cafe hopping with friends, painting, dancing and crafting, as well as picking up new skills like learning languages.

Willem Martzke

Willem is a 3rd year undergraduate student at UBC studying Cellular and Physiological Sciences. He is currently a volunteer research assistant at VGH for the EMED study where he hopes to improve the effectiveness and accessibility of opioid dependence treatment. Outside of his academics, Willem enjoys traveling, cooking, and outdoor adventure.


Clara Gale

Clara is in her third year at UBC studying biology in the honours program. She joined the Moe lab in October of 2024 and has a keen interest in pursuing emergency medicine in the future. In her free time, Clara enjoys baking, skiing and watching true crime documentaries.


Hannah Strasdin

Medical Student, Peer Support Worker Study

Hannah is a medical student at Queen’s University who previously completed her Master of Public Health in Indigenous peoples’ health. She is passionate about addressing systemic biases and advancing health equity for people who use substances and Indigenous communities. She has been involved with the Moe Lab since June 2024. In her spare time, Hannah enjoys spending time with her cat and exploring new cafes with friends.
